Planet Desert
In my live multivision show Planet Desert, I contrast the arid deserts with the polar deserts of the Earth and circumnavigate the globe four times together with my audience. I report on adventurous journeys and expeditions to the Sahara, Rub al-Khali, Gobi, Simpson, Sonora, Atacama, and Namib deserts, as well as to the cold and ice deserts of the Arctic and Antarctic. Sometimes by motorcycle, sometimes by camel and off-road vehicle, and sometimes by dog sled or on skis, I travelled through breathtaking landscapes and met extraordinary people.
Almost half of the Earth’s land surface is occupied by deserts—whether arid deserts or cold and ice deserts—which is why the Earth can rightly be described as a desert planet. A magnificent, largely untouched natural environment, extreme climatic conditions such as heat and dryness or cold and darkness, and last but not least the people who have adapted to the difficult living conditions of these environments are what make the fascination of these extreme zones so captivating.
